Skiing & Snowboarding

  • Morzine Avoriaz is the beating heart of the Portes du Soleil ski area - the largest linked lift network in the world!
  • It provides access to 430 individual pistes served by 209 ski lifts.
  • The Portes du Soleil ski pass gives you access to a dozen resorts - not even the speediest skier could ski every piste in the area in a week!
  • The super fast Ardent gondola is just a 6 minute drive from the chalet; it takes you right into the middle of the Avoriaz ski area: Les Linderets. (download piste map below)

AliKats Top Tips

  • For glorious wide pistes: Les Haut Forts, the highest point in the Portes du Soleil at 2466m
  • For 'safe' off piste: Fornet Bowl in Avoriaz & 'Happy Valley' in Chatel (nr Cornebois lift)
  • For moguls: The infamous Swiss Wall. Ski at your own peril!
  • For something different: The Stash. A natural park created by Burton with the famous picnic table to drop off!
  • For a thigh burning workout: The World Cup run in Avoriaz. A full 1100m descent; steep & fast.
  • When the clouds roll in, head for the trees. The 'Star Wars' run, aka La Combe à Floret, is great fun
  • For lunch with a view: the panoramic restaurant at the top of the Mosettes chair straddling Switzerland and France is breathtaking.
  • For an apres beer: 'La Ferme' half way down the home run is a great place to stop and exchange stories in the afternoon sun before the final 400m down to the AliKats minibus waiting to take you back to cake and the hot-tub...

Snow record

  • Avoriaz has one of the best snow records in France with an average of a whopping 8m of snow per season
  • This bumper snowfall is the result of the humidity building from Lake Geneva hitting the cold front surrounding the giant Mont Blanc (4880m) only 50km away. This makes our northerly resort a dumping ground for snow.
  • In the event that the natural snow lets us down, there are snow making facilities across 130km of pistes with a total of 322 snow cannons.
  • Even last winter, which was relatively dry, the pistes of Avoriaz were kept in great condition right until the end of April.

parkmontageParks

There are several different parks to be accessed from Morzine, most famously the Stash sponsored by Burton which has a wide range of wooden rails and boxes and jumps, hips, walls etc. to play with, all built along ecological principles. It is the only park of its type in France.

Snowpark de la Chappelle– under Express Proclou lift in Avoriaz. Known as the “Baby Park” it has jumps ranging from easy greens to pretty advanced blues as well as rails, boxes, A frame and spines which are suitable for beginners to good intermediates.

Snowpark Arare – accessed by Express Lac Intrets lift and Bleue du Lac run. This park means business, the red jumps are a big step up from the blues in the Chappelle park and the rails have a big drop off if you get it wrong. It’s a great place to watch some major talent in action.

Trashers snowpark– in the Falaise sector. This is for kids and beginners and has a series of small jumps, slides and obstacles to cut your teeth on (not literally we hope!)

Superpipe -opposite the top of the Prodain lift. At 120m long and with 6m high walls this pipe is big, seriously big.

Bordercross – in the Arare area. Anybody can have a stab at this as you can always dodge the bigger jumps if your nerves fail you.

Snowpark Les Crosets – under the TS Les Crosets 2. This is an advanced park, similar to Snowpark Arare with some large jumps and features.
